Sep 29, 2012 Flash player no longer working in Google Chrome -- Chrome Version 22.0.1229.79, Mac OS X Lion. Flash works fine in Safari and Firefox. Pages with flash freeze -- can't scroll (e.g, nytimes.com); on youtube, sound plays but the video windows are. Google Chrome, Adobe said, will be updated automatically to Adobe Flash Player 31.0.0.153 for Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS.
Hi, I'm running Chrome 5.0.375.38 beta on Mac OS x 10.6.3. The problem is that the flash player is not working properly. A couple of days ago (after months of proper functioning) the flash player stopped working at all. I downloaded the latest version from Adobe (which stated that it only offered compatibility with Safari, Firefox and Opera) but I run the installation program and it worked ok for 2 days, then the weird stuff happened. The flash player seems to be working (I can hear the audio of videos or websites) but it won't render the graphics, in some cases it will display the UI of some videos (i.e. YouTube) but you can't click on anything.
Anyway, my question is how can I uninstall this flash player and re-install it again. Would it be possible that this problem has to do with a recent installation of Adobe Flash CS5 on my machine?
Any advice would be highly appreciated. Gabrielf 31/5/2010, 6:08 น. I am having the same problem using chrome in Win7 x64. Flash objects display on the screen, but you can't click them. They're totally static. I have seen this on the integrated player on my podcast at RadioTrainWreck.com and I have now noticed it on a few embedded YouTube videos on my forum at CoastGab.com. I have repeatedly uninstalled Flash and reinstalled it.
Same goes for Chrome, as well. I have even tried installing the release candidate for the next verion of Flash which is 10.1. Still, the problem persists. Jskinner82 6/6/2010, 17:27 น. I have this problem as well.
The flash video element may entirely disappear from the page while the space it would have occupied still exists. When moving windows or switching tabs a working flash video element might disappear or turn white. If the video has already loaded, audio can be heard. If not, everything is dead. OS: 10.6.3 Chrome: 5.0.375.55 This is the only reason I'm jumping in between Chrome and Safari. And it's quite a hassle.
I think a fix is in order, no? Elman 17/6/2010, 11:01 น. Hey Toni, thanks for investigating this. Yes, I am having this issue with the latest version of Chrome (5.0.375.99) Funny, I had also tried troubleshooting this by typing about:plugins into my address bar, finding the Flash Plugin path, and deleting it through Terminal (as I had discovered uninstalling Flash didn't get rid of it on Chrome). Then I reinstalled Flash and still had the problem. I've since re-installed Chrome. Anyway, here are the stats: Chrome (5.0.375.99) Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.1.53.64 Mac 10.6.4 - 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ZootX 2/7/2010, 9:22 น.
@Toni: I'm having the same problem. I have two versions of the Flash plugin - one in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and one in /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/Versions/5.0.375.99/Flash Player Plugin for Chrome.plugin. Note that I'm a Flash/Flex developer and have the.debug. version of the player installed in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Note also that I've tried disabling each plugin and restarting Chrome, but with no effect. When I navigate to a page with Flash content, the content isn't drawn - the background appears instead.
However, context-clicking on the Flash region brings up the Flash context menu, so I know that the plugin is loaded and 'thinks' it's rendering to the screen. I believe I have tried everything on the list here. Have uninstalled and reinstalled all chrome and flash components, no luck.
I am now even running Dev versions of Chrome to try and get the latest versions, no luck. However to break it down I am running: OS X 10.6.4 1.83Ghz Intel Core 2 Due 1 Gb 667 MHz Ram Chrome 6.0.485.1 (plugin 1) Flash - Version: 10.1.53.64 (plugin 2) Shockwave - Version: 11.5.7.609:: I have another 'newer' mac book where Flash is working fine, which is running: OS X 10.6.3 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB 1067 MHz Ram Chrome 5.0.375.99 (plugin 1) Shockwave Flash - Version 10.1.53.64 (plugin 2) Shockwave Flash - Version 10.0.42. What I suspect is that the issue is with the latest versions of the plugins. Either way there is a muddle in there that needs to get sorted. What I can't figure out is how to install older versions of the plugin or to replicate the setup of the working Macbook on my current Macbook. This is getting highly frustrating as I really like the extended features of Chrome, but with Flash broken I am being forced to use other browsers. Michael.mauer 19/7/2010, 22:35 น.
Hey everyone.had the same exact problem and here's what I did to fix it: It seems as if the updated Flash plug-in is the root of the problem, so you simply disable it. 1.) Type in 'about:plugins' into the browser to pull up the browser preference page 2.) Locate the two simultaneously enabled Flash plug-ins, in my case labeled 'Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.1.53.64' and 'Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.0.45' 3.) Click disable on the NEWER version, as this is the one causing the issue - in my case, I disabled 'Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.1.53.64' Not sure if this is the problem for everyone, but it fixed mine 100% michael.mauer 22/7/2010, 8:03 น. Wanted to just post that the above fix worked for a few days. Upon installing CS5, Flash stopped working both in Chrome and Firefox again.
Chrome - 5.0.375.99 Flash #1 - Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.1.53.64 Description: Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53 Location: /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/Versions/5.0.375.99/Flash Player Plugin for Chrome.plugin Flash #2 - Shockwave Flash - Version: 10.1.52.15 Description: Shockwave Flash 10.1 r52 Location: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin Mac - 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo - 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM MartinBurger 22/7/2010, 13:34 น. Thanks for your fix -!! Switching off the plug-in did resolve the issue across my two macs & one PC netbook running Chrome.
When I was switching the plugin off I did notice that the allow all sites to use plugins(recommended) button was also switched off. To be honest I can't reacall if I had switched this off myself, but all three of my computers did have the option selected as off, which suggests to me that somewhere in the updating process of Chrome versions the option defaulted to off. Either way (so far) by disabling the latest flash plug-in and making sure that you 'allow all sites to use plugins' has resolved my problems. In my understanding this should not be a complicated problem and it does seem to stem from a tendency for Chrome to double up on the required Flash Plugins and perhaps also a bad interaction between non-chrome-plugin versions of Flash. All in all - if Flash want to reamin in favor this needs to get sorted for all users. Jnorthrop 23/7/2010, 11:19 น.
@blair Ok, I'm having this issue on my Macbook Pro. I found a way to fix it!!! I have a brand new macbook pro, totally updated software and all that jazz. Heres what you have to do.
While in Chrome click on the History tab, go down and click 'Show Full History.' - Click 'Edit Items.' On the right side of the page. Now click the 'Clear All Browsing Data' button that just popped up.Don't worry, clicking this won't delete anything! - At the bottom of the thing that pops up click 'Adobe Flash Player Storage Settings.' - A new page will open, and you'll see a box labeled 'Website Storage Settings panel.'
- IN that box click on the Tab with the picture of the world AND a folder with a green arrow (It should be the second from the left). Now Click the box next to 'Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer' so that it is checked! And thats it! Hope this helps! It fixed all the problems I was having with Chrome and Flash Player! Masons 17/9/2010, 15:45 น. This problem is still open!? I have the same problem with my Chrome.
In fact, I can play any movie, it appears without the control bar (with the play button and the timeline). I try all possible solutions presented here (i.e. @RySwishVT, @masons and @delirio), and the classical uninstall and install chrome and flash player. By the way, everything is ok with Safari - Version 5.0.2 (5533.18.5) - and FireFox - version 3.6.6. Any new 'solution'? Chrome Version: 8.0.552.200 beta Flash: 10.1.103.19 Shockwave Flash: 10.1 r103 Mac OS X: 10.6.5 On many sites which use buttons in media players, such as, after a period of time, the buttons stop actually carrying out their actions.
If I click on the pause button, I'd expect a video to pause. Often is the case that the button changes icon instantly, but functionally nothing happens. This is repeatable but only happens after a period of inactivity (say I step away for 20 minutes - my computer isn't sleeping at this time, btw). I also experience this on and any other flash using site. Using Firefox this isn't an issue.
SXFoxstar, 22:52 น. I was having trouble with flash not playing on the ABC News web site. I tried many things recommended by others, downloaded different versions of Flash, investigated 64 bit problems as per Flash web site. Eventually I looked in the Library/Internet plugins/ folder and found a file called 'flashplayer.xpt' in addition to the normal flash plugin. I have no idea what it does, but I removed it to the desktop and hey presto flash video works. I am using Mac OS X 10.6.5 and Safari, Firefox and Chrome. All work perfectly.
Kadavy, 9:20 น. I had the same problem. Chrome suddenly stopped working properly about a month ago. Websites such as Facebook, youtube and basically every websites with flash content in them were not displaying properly. I tried some of the tricks and tips told here but nothing seemed to be working for me.

So i went to chrome://extensions/ and tried disabling some extensions. I found out that adblock was causing all the troubles for me. Now that i've disabled adblock, everything work perfectly. Hope it will help! Ladislas 16/1/2011, 23:26 น.

However, its a simple fix actually, surprised no one has come across this yet. Uninstall flash with Adobe's Uninstaller ( ), then open up Disk Utility in the Utilities folder and select the Macintosh HD. Click Repair Permissions, wait for everything to finish, then restart. Finally make sure that the dedicated Flash plugin is enabled by typing about:plugins into the address bar on Chrome. Everything should be working ok now, and you can sit back and finally stop stressing: Sevian 16/1/2012, 15:13 น.
I use VNC to remote control one of my desktop in my office (better internet connection) and mouse script to play an on-line MMORPG, by repeating a certain easy task again and again 24 hour a day (as long as internet connection is good and my mouse click script is good). The script is near-robust for the past one year and a half.
Two days ago, my script stopped. I realized that, the game is in flash and I can not click. I can move my mouse over the game screen, but just can not click.
However, I could click in other webpages, as long as it is not flash. What did I deal with this issue?
After doing some research I realized that whether someone in adobe flash or google chrome did a lozzy job and is going to get fired by screwing up their new version. So I googled 'google chrome older version download', and tried the version in June, no luck. Then I tried the version in 2011 July, problem solved. Now my script goes back to normal, as click in the game is recognized. Now the script is running for over 10 hours and is still clicking.

After much popularity of my original post last year on how to fix, I’m back with an updated version for 2013! If you are a Chrome for Mac OS user, chances are that you’re working your way through a seemingly never-ending battle with an onslaught of Adobe (Shockwave) Flash updates, many of which have seemed to cause unnecessary slow-downs, crashes and eventually (pardon my highly scientific terminology) the urge to rip out each and every single hair from your skull. I’ve been there myself and I’m here today to make sure that those pretty little hairs remain deeply rooted where they belongin your head and not on the floor next to your computer. The methodology behind today’s fix is really quite simple, and equally baffling. For some odd reason, my up-to-date Chrome for Mac OS X installation seemed to have not just one, but two, count them — two — versions of Flash installed and activated at the same time.
Why, you ask? It’s beyond my comprehension, but I’ve discovered a quick and painless way to trim the fat. Here are the steps you can take to enrich your Flash-based Web browsing experience without even restarting your browser! Are you ready? Step 1: Plugins In your address bar, type chrome:plugins and hit Enter on your keyboard. Step 2: Expand In the top-right corner, you should see the word Details with a small + symbol next to it.
Click the + symbol to expand the existing plugins listed in the column on the left. If it is already expanded (showing a – symbol), go ahead and skip to step 3. Step 3: Disable Scrolling down to Flash, you should see a mention of 2 files.
You’re almost finished. Leaving the top entry alone, you will want to click Disable for the older version. This will grey out the older erroneous version (on the bottom) and will prevent Chrome from referencing multiple Flash installations each time a Flash-based object is called up in the browser. If your screen looks like the screenshot below, you’ve just succeeded in clearing out the unnecessary Flash installations. Go ahead and try using that Flash-enabled object or Website after making this change and our money is on the fact that everything will be back to a normal (functioning) state!
Update for PC (Windows 7) 2013-07-15 I had the pleasant opportunity to chat with an individual who was having difficulty seeing Flash objects in Chrome for PC (Windows 7), who provided the following steps for a similar resolution for Windows / PC users, which is as follows: 1) In your address bar on Chrome type in ‘chrome://plugins’ 2) Immediately you will see the list of plugins running on Chrome and the top two are both Adobe Flash Player, but installed in different file locations. 3) Find the one that is located at: C:Program Files (x86)ChromeApplication28.0.1500.72PepperFlashpepflashplayer.dll. (the numbers following Application may vary on your PC) 4) Just underneath the location information is a blue, underlined link saying ‘Disable’. Left-click this link so it changes to ‘Enable’. 5) To be on the safe side, close down and restart Chrome (although it shouldn’t be necessary).
This helpful individual also provided the following screenshot of the enacted fix: Why users are forced into workarounds like this will probably never be fully explained, but hey — at least there are people out there who are willing to share their knowledge in these difficult-to-pin-down situations — right?!
